About The Position

American Furniture Rental, Inc. is hiring a full-time Assistant Operations Manager for its Jessup, Maryland team. This is a hands-on leadership role in a fast-paced warehouse operation, not an administrative-only position. The manager will learn and participate in all aspects of the operation while helping deliver reliable service and high-quality furniture solutions. The role combines daily warehouse work with leading, coaching, and developing warehouse and delivery teams. The Assistant Operations Manager works alongside the team as needed and helps maintain operational quality, accountability, performance, and a strong team culture. The position pays $65,000–$80,000 per year and offers an excellent benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, paid vacation, PTO, and a 401(k).

Requirements

At least 1 year of management experience in a distribution center.
Strong leadership and communication skills, including excellent verbal and written communication.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-driven environment.
Proven leadership in team rebuilding and operational improvement.
Detail-oriented and highly organized, with excellent planning and time-management skills.
Physically able to lift up to 75 pounds, climb stairs, and remain active throughout the day.
Forklift certified or willing to obtain AFR certification.
Familiarity with budgeting, scheduling, and managing operational KPIs.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience managing a residential furniture warehouse is strongly preferred.
Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.

Responsibilities

Oversee and participate in daily warehouse operations, including prepping, picking, shipping, and delivery.
Work side-by-side with the team when needed and lead by example.
Train, coach, and rebuild warehouse and delivery teams, focusing on accountability, performance, and team culture.
Monitor quality standards and inspect inbound and outbound orders.
Coordinate delivery-truck routing with Operations Managers to support smooth, efficient service.
Lead weekly Operations/Sales calls to align cross-functional teams.
Resolve delivery issues proactively and creatively.
Manage triage, inspect returned products, and approve inventory for restocking.
Apply budgeting, scheduling, and operational KPI practices.
