The Assistant Manager is the General Manager’s second-in-command and a key leader in the restaurant’s success. The role owns restaurant P&L and labor results, leads and develops management and hourly teams, and makes final hiring and termination decisions for the restaurant team. When the General Manager is absent, the Assistant Manager is the highest-ranking member of the management team. The position is designed to prepare high-performing leaders for promotion to General Manager. The Assistant Manager oversees daily restaurant operations to meet company standards for food quality, service, sanitation, safety and food handling. Responsibilities include supervising managers and team members, assigning work, managing inventory, reconciling cash and deposits, maintaining records, and preparing for health inspections and internal audits. The role monitors sales, labor and food costs, develops plans to meet financial targets, manages scheduling and overtime, and controls waste, comps and voids. The Assistant Manager recruits and hires team members, trains and develops staff, conducts performance reviews, provides ongoing feedback, and makes decisions on counseling, discipline and termination in partnership with Human Resources. The role communicates with restaurant teams, guests, vendors and the community; conducts meetings as directed; resolves team concerns; follows the General Manager’s direction; and participates in leadership development in preparation for expanded responsibilities. Work takes place in a fast-paced restaurant environment. Occasional travel to nearby restaurants may be required for training or to support new restaurant openings.
