About The Position

The Assistant Manager assists and consults with the Store Manager on overall store operations and administrative duties, including determining methods and approaches for achieving store goals. The role requires knowledge of each product area or department and adherence to policies, procedures, and standards in the visual manual. The Assistant Manager promotes merchandise and provides outstanding customer service. In the Store Manager’s absence, this position assumes supervisory control of the store and is trained in Store Manager responsibilities. The Assistant Manager helps manage store assets, personnel, inventory, sales, expenses, merchandising, and daily operations. The position also supervises employees when the Store Manager is absent, including assigning and directing work and resolving problems.

Requirements

Experience working in a retail environment; footwear and athletic apparel experience is preferred.
1–3 years of customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and precisely.
Team player passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in controlling company assets.
Consult with the Store Manager on action plans for selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, scheduling, and other departmental and store responsibilities.
Assume responsibility for the entire store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Assist with recruiting, training, and evaluating personnel.
Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers across departments.
Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to support profitability.
Direct staff to ensure departmental responsibilities and standards are completed.
Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
Maintain quality customer service, including assisting customers as they enter and helping multiple customers during peak periods.
Promote and sell company services and merchandise.
Uphold company policies, procedures, and standards in the operations, personnel, visual, and customer service manuals, as well as company communications.
Protect company assets and financial information by ensuring internal control procedures are accurate and effective, and report potential fraud risks to management or appropriate officials.
Perform general administrative duties and train in Store Manager responsibilities.
In the Store Manager’s absence, supervise employees, interview and train employees, plan and assign work, direct work, and resolve problems in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
