The Assistant Manager is responsible for everything that happens during a store shift, including cost, inventory, and cash controls, customer relations, staffing, paperwork, food management, scheduling, store cleanliness, marketing, and profitability. The role requires setting an example for the crew, following all company policies and procedures, and expecting the same standards from team members. The assistant manager also performs general store-team duties such as operating equipment, stocking ingredients, preparing products, processing telephone orders, taking inventory, completing paperwork, and cleaning equipment and the facility. On-the-job orientation and training are provided. Team members must communicate with customers and coworkers, process orders, operate a computer keyboard or touchscreen, and perform physical store tasks. The job may involve delivering products by car, navigating delivery locations, and delivering flyers and door hangers. Advancement opportunities may include general manager, franchisee, or Manager Corporate Operations. The work environment includes varying temperatures, food odors, cornmeal dust, cramped areas such as walk-in coolers, hot oven surfaces, sharp edges, moving mechanical parts, and sometimes adverse weather. Physical activities include standing, walking, sitting for paperwork, lifting and carrying supplies, pushing or pulling trays, climbing stairs or ladders, bending, crouching, reaching, driving, and frequent hand use. A valid driver's license with a safe driving record and access to an insured vehicle are required for delivery duties.
