About The Position

Babilou Family US is seeking an Assistant Teacher to help provide a safe, nurturing, sustainable, and developmentally supportive learning environment. The Assistant Teacher supports the Certified Teacher with daily lesson plans and learning experiences, classroom organization, child supervision, family communication, and sustainable classroom practices. The role promotes curiosity, responsibility, care for others and the environment, and whole-child development through research-grounded early education and Sustainable Education® principles. The position includes regular interaction with children, families, and colleagues in active indoor and outdoor classroom settings. The Assistant Teacher must complete required training and maintain relevant certifications. Employees must complete a background check as required by the Department of Early Education and Care. The location operates year-round, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience working with young children in a childcare or educational setting.
Knowledge of child development and classroom safety standards.
Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to follow lesson plans and effectively support the Certified Teacher.
Ability to move throughout the school for prolonged periods, including standing and walking for up to 75% of the workday.
Ability to transition between sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, and squatting throughout the day.
Ability to safely lift, carry, and move items up to 30 pounds.
Ability to sit on the floor and participate in age-appropriate activities, including light running and outdoor play supervision.
Comfort working in a dynamic, sometimes noisy environment with frequent interruptions and movement between indoor and outdoor spaces.
Ability to supervise children in classrooms, playgrounds, hallways, entryways, and common areas.
Ability to respond quickly and safely to emergencies, evacuations, drills, and urgent classroom needs.
Ability to complete a background check as required by the Department of Early Education and Care.

Nice To Haves

Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education.
Experience or interest in sustainability, environmental education, or eco-conscious classroom practices.

Responsibilities

Assist the Certified Teacher in implementing daily lesson plans and learning experiences that support whole-child development and introduce age-appropriate sustainability concepts.
Maintain a clean, organized, and environmentally responsible classroom, following sustainable routines for materials, storage, and resource use.
Supervise children during classroom activities, meals, transitions, and outdoor experiences.
Serve as a mandated reporter and recognize, document, and immediately report suspected child abuse, neglect, or endangerment in accordance with state law.
Support individual developmental needs and nurture children’s understanding of caring for themselves, others, and the environment.
Greet families and assist with sustainable communication practices, digital updates, purposeful resource use, and consistent messaging directed by the Certified Teacher.
Participate in family engagement events, including sustainability-themed activities or community learning opportunities.
Attend required training and maintain certifications related to early childhood education, safety, and sustainable practices.
Collaborate with the teaching team to enhance classroom systems, curriculum, and sustainability initiatives.
Follow and model safety procedures and respond appropriately to emergency situations.
