About The Position

The Assistant in Training (AIT) supports the Store Manager and Leadership Team in creating an enjoyable shopping experience for Guests. The role combines sales, customer service, merchandising, and store operations, while developing skills in recruiting, training, motivating, and leading Teammates. The AIT may act as the Store Manager in their absence. Assistant Manager duties are a progression from the AIT role and include additional higher-level responsibilities, while most duties are shared. The position involves working in a retail store and completing assigned tasks such as cashiering, merchandise displays and pulls, register procedures, routine cleaning, inventory and freight activities, and opening and closing procedures. The AIT helps meet store sales and service goals, maintain visual and operational standards, develop Teammates, and support the effective operation of the store. The role requires a flexible schedule based on business needs, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and the day of or day after Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED, or one to three months of related retail experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include mornings, evenings, weekends, and the day of or day after Thanksgiving and Christmas, based on store and business needs.
Ability to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel objects, reach, climb or balance, jump, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and communicate by talking or hearing.
Ability to lift and maneuver 50 pounds throughout the store and backroom.
Vision abilities including close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Ability to travel to and cover other stores within the district based on business needs.
Ability to perform the essential duties, with reasonable accommodations where applicable.

Responsibilities

Provide friendly, engaging, and knowledgeable service to Guests; help them find merchandise, anticipate their needs, and recommend additional products.
Demonstrate product knowledge and sales showmanship, communicate current promotions and store policies, and help achieve personal and store sales goals.
Build Guest relationships and loyalty, including through fit appointments, Buckle credit card and Guest Connect efforts, and remembering Guest names.
Work with the Store Manager to plan sales goals, identify education priorities, and support business goals and store performance.
Recruit, train, coach, motivate, and develop Teammates; support interviews, onboarding, accountability, shift orientation, loss prevention, and sales presentation standards.
Help maintain a positive floor culture and model professional conduct, dress standards, leadership, and customer service.
Own and influence product presentation through zone ownership, visual standards, freight-to-floor execution, store tours, and review of visual checklists.
Complete sales-floor and backroom operational work, including opening and closing checklists, markdowns, pulls, freight, recalls, and returns to vendors.
Execute and teach Point of Sale procedures; follow payment, return, exchange, security, and loss-prevention policies, including daily bag and purse checks.
Maintain a clean, organized, and shoppable store; monitor supplies and communicate merchandise-handling concerns.
Complete scheduled shifts and cover shifts when needed; handle schedule changes professionally and travel to cover other district stores based on business needs.
Communicate policy violations and Teammate or Guest concerns to the Store Manager, District Manager, and/or Human Resources in a timely and confidential manner.
Complete new-hire paperwork and tasks according to Human Resources guidelines and legal policies.
Handle emergencies in the Store Manager’s absence in accordance with Company guidelines.
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
