About The Position

The Assistant Grocery Manager helps customers make healthy food choices by providing excellent customer service and managing and leading the grocery team. The role assists the Grocery Manager in managing and merchandising the department for productivity and profit, with responsibility for ordering, inventory controls, product quality, and team supervision. It coordinates merchandising and sales through planning, direction, goal setting, communication, and teamwork.

The Assistant Grocery Manager also helps hire, teach, train, and develop the Grocery Team; unloads and sorts store deliveries; and ensures the execution of company health, safety, and sanitation guidelines. The position requires working in a fast-paced retail environment and following a flexible schedule that may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Physical requirements include walking up to three miles per eight-hour shift, lifting and transferring specified loads, and repetitive squatting, kneeling, and bending.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• 1–3 years of retail management experience.
• Dependable and reliable, with the ability to work a flexible schedule that changes with business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to take and give direction in a team environment.
• Outgoing, friendly behavior, a positive attitude, and the ability to interact with customers.
• Demonstrated leadership ability to build, motivate, and maintain staff.
• Working knowledge of personnel reports, margin reports, weekly sales numbers, and financial goals.
• Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong organization and planning skills, including the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
• Ability to walk up to 3 miles per 8 hours.
• Ability to vertically transfer milk trays weighing up to 60 lbs. from 9 inches to 62 inches for up to 25 hours.
• Ability to vertically and horizontally transfer boxes weighing up to 50 lbs. from 5 inches to 34 inches, for a distance of up to 5 feet, for up to 25 hours without mechanical assistance.
• Ability to repetitively squat, kneel, and bend to access a point 5 inches from the floor for up to 30 hours.
