About The Position

The Assistant Grocery Manager helps customers make healthy food choices by delivering excellent customer service and managing and leading the grocery team. The role assists the Grocery Manager with department management and merchandising to support productivity and profit, and is responsible for ordering, inventory controls, product quality, and team supervision. It coordinates merchandising and sales through planning, direction, goal setting, communication, and teamwork. The Assistant Grocery Manager also helps hire, teach, train, and develop team members; unloads and sorts store deliveries; and ensures company health, safety, and sanitation guidelines are followed. This is a fast-paced retail role with a flexible schedule that may include nights, weekends, and holidays, and involves walking, lifting, carrying, and repetitive bending or squatting.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• 1–3 years of retail management experience.
• Dependable and reliable, with the ability to work a flexible schedule that changes with business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to take and give direction and participate in a team environment.
• Outgoing, friendly behavior, a positive attitude, and the ability to interact with customers.
• Demonstrated leadership ability to build, motivate, and maintain staff.
• Working knowledge of personnel reports, margin reports, weekly sales numbers, and financial goals.
• Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong organization and planning skills, including the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
• Ability to walk up to 3 miles per 8-hour period.
• Ability to vertically transfer milk trays weighing up to 60 lbs. from 9 inches to 62 inches for up to 25 hours.
• Ability to vertically and horizontally transfer boxes weighing up to 50 lbs. from 5 inches to 34 inches, for distances up to 5 feet, without mechanical assistance, for up to 25 hours.
• Ability to repetitively squat, kneel, and bend to access a point 5 inches from the floor for up to 30 hours.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Grocery Manager in managing and merchandising the department for maximum productivity and profit.
