About The Position

The Summer Program Assistant Director is responsible for supporting the overall leadership and daily operations of a 6-week summer program for youth that have functional differences. This is a seasonal, part-time position with specific dates of employment from June 29, 2026, to August 13, 2026. The role involves pre-planning activities, supporting daily operations during the program, and assisting with follow-up responsibilities after the program concludes. The Assistant Director will work closely with the Program Director and counselors to ensure a safe, engaging, and well-managed experience for participants.

Requirements

  • Working towards a bachelor’s degree in recreation, human services, or related field and two years of experience working with individuals that have functional differences.
  • A valid driver’s license and good driving record acceptable to the Agency’s insurance carrier.
  • Pass and maintain OPWDD Certification in CPR and First Aid.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Therapeutic Recreation & Leisure Services leadership with development of orientation training for counselors.
  • Coordinate development & planning of Summer Program Activities, field trips and calendar of events to be sent home with participants.
  • Support the Program Director with daily operations, transitions, and activity flow.
  • Assist with staff training and provide ongoing skill-building in activity facilitation, communication, and behavior support.
  • Provide on-the-floor oversight of staff, activities & participants to ensure safety, engagement, and consistency across all program areas.
  • Coordinate staff schedules, breaks, and coverage to keep the program running smoothly.
  • Support positive group dynamics and problem-solve daily challenges.
  • Ensure compliance with all safeguards for participants.
  • Assist with daily attendance tracking & required documentation.
  • Communicate with families as needed to provide updates and support.
  • Responsible for addressing and reporting all incidents, accidents, observed and suspected situations that adversely impact on the health and safety of individuals receiving services.
  • Responsible for complying with all Part 635, Part 671, Part 624, and Part 633 regulations in total and reporting violations, deficiencies, and/or incidents to direct supervisor as they are discovered or indicated.
  • Assist with ordering supplies within budgetary guidelines and being responsible for the handling of petty cash.
  • Assist with organization & submission of billing data.
  • Assist with participant and staff surveys directly following the end of program.
