About The Position

The Assistant Director of Student Life provides leadership, oversight, and strategic support for the College's student engagement and student life programs. Reporting to the Director of Student Life, the position assists in the development, implementation, assessment, and continuous improvement of programs and services that enhance student engagement, leadership development, campus involvement, and student success. The Assistant Director supervises staff, supports departmental operations, manages assigned budgets and resources, advises student organizations, and collaborates with campus partners to promote a vibrant and inclusive campus community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in student life, student engagement, student affairs, higher education administration, leadership development, or a related field
  • Supervisory experience
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed for recruitment events

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree
  • Two (2) years’ supervisory experience
  • Strong PC skills with knowledge of MS Office, enterprise resource planning tools; experience with Colleague or Banner, Proficiency in Customer Relations Management (CRM) system such as Ellucian Recruit
  • Strong social media/website management skills

Responsibilities

  • Leads and supports the development, coordination, implementation, documentation, and assessment of the College's cultural, educational, social, recreational, and leadership programming initiatives.
  • Provides administrative and logistical support for non-instructional student events sponsored by the Office of Student Life and student clubs/organizations, including scheduling, facilities, transportation, equipment, and inventory management, and supports event planning and delivery through the effective use of technology platforms for scheduling, promotion, engagement tracking, and virtual leadership training.
  • Consults with student organizations and advisors, providing guidance on College procedures, leadership development, and organizational operations, and oversees the student organization recognition process, compliance requirements, advisor support, and risk management practices for recognized organizations.
  • Supervises, trains, evaluates, and supports professional staff, student workers, and graduate/student leadership positions within the Office of Student Life. Provides coaching, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities.
  • Manages assigned Student Life budgets, monitors expenditures, prepares budget projections, and ensures responsible stewardship of departmental and student activity fee resources.
  • Serves as a co-advisor to the Student Government Association, supporting student leadership development and shared governance initiatives.
  • Develops and implements assessment strategies to measure student engagement, program effectiveness, and learning outcomes; utilizes assessment data to prepare reports and recommendations that support continuous improvement, institutional planning, and strategic decision-making.
  • Provides leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of departmental strategic goals, annual objectives, and operational priorities that advances student engagement and institutional priorities.
  • Provides leadership development opportunities, trainings, and mentoring programs to enhance student leadership capacity, civic engagement, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Provides leadership for major campus traditions, leadership programs, student recognition events, welcome activities, and engagement initiatives designed to enhance the student experience.
  • Collaborates with academic and administrative departments to develop co-curricular programs and initiatives that promote student engagement, retention, belonging, and overall student success.
  • Represents the Director of Student Life on institutional committees, task forces, and meetings, participates in divisional and institutional initiatives that advance student engagement, retention, student success, and campus belonging, and assumes administrative leadership responsibilities in the Director's absence.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
