About The Position

Intermediate District 287 is looking for an Assistant Director of Student Services to join the team! At Intermediate District 287, we are committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for both students and staff. Each school is equipped with a dedicated team, including School Social Workers, Psychologists, Counselors, Behavior Intervention Specialists, and Student Safety Coaches who are all working together to build meaningful relationships and support student success. We offer personalized attention in small classes, with an average of 6-8 students per class, ensuring every student receives the individualized care they deserve. Requirements

  • Advanced degree in educational administration, education leadership or curriculum and instruction from an accredited college or university
  • Five (5) years of experience working in an educational setting or within an education consortium with experience in a wide variety of disability areas including low-incidence disabilities
  • Three (3) years of the General Experience preferred in a supervisory capacity over professional educational staff
  • Director of Special Education license

Responsibilities

  • Assists in developing and facilitating the District strategic plan as it relates to the Special Education Division
  • Assists in the direction and evaluation of Division staff
  • Assists in ensuring Division-wide compliance with statutes and regulations regarding special education and MDE billing
  • Provides leadership and support to Instructional Leaders and Program Facilitators in their respective programs
  • Provides instructional leadership toward achieving District-wide Instructional Results
  • Supports the District Special Education referral process and District centralized intake process
  • Collaborates with member district directors and coordinators in facilitating referral and placement process
  • Assists in the administration of the Division’s special education programs to conform to Board policies and District uniform procedures
  • Assists in the preparation, administration and monitoring of the Special Education budget
  • Collaborates with other divisions within the District to address District-wide issues and, specifically, student support services
  • Provides leadership and facilitation with advisory committees and Special Education Director Advisory Committee as assigned
  • Collaborates with outside agencies on behalf of the District regarding student needs
  • Represents the Division at meetings with external stakeholders regarding special education programs and initiatives
  • Ensures that the District is responsive to the changing needs of member districts and those of a diverse, special-needs student population
  • Assists in implementing and complying with Board policies and District uniform procedures
  • Assists in ensuring the mentoring, training and staff development of Division employees
  • Provides leadership in meeting Division and District standards
  • Directs and performs special assignments and initiatives as assigned
  • Foster a culture of innovation and facilitate action on innovative ideas in order to achieve our mission
