About The Position

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Student Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) is seeking an Assistant Director of Outreach Services/Licensed Psychologist. CAPS is an IACS-Accredited center within the Student Wellness unit, which includes various departments focused on student well-being. This full-time, 12-month position offers a unique opportunity to work within a dynamic, integrated service model serving a diverse student population. The Assistant Director of Outreach Services (ADOS) will oversee CAPS Outreach, Social Media & Technology, and Wellness Promotion, ensuring adherence to professional standards, laws, and university mandates. This role involves integrating outreach and prevention programming into counseling center activities, developing and executing outreach policies, and providing clinical services such as individual, couples, and group counseling, intake evaluations, crisis assessment and intervention, and outreach consultation. The ADOS will also provide clinical supervision and training to trainees and/or psychological assistants, and contribute to departmental strategic planning and leadership as part of the CAPS leadership team, including administrative supervision of Wellness Promotion staff and student workers. The position offers opportunities for professional growth through an APA-accredited Doctoral Psychology Internship Program and an active practicum training program.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology from an accredited college or university.
  • Two years of related professional experience.
  • One year of comparable supervisory experience with clinical trainees.
  • Demonstrated experience and training in generalist counseling.
  • Licensed as a Psychologist and attain licensure as a Psychologist in Nevada by the start date.
  • Strong clinical assessment and crisis intervention skills.
  • Experience in supervision and training.
  • Proficiency in brief therapy and group counseling.
  • A desire to work in a collaborative setting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • All candidates must pass a background screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with coordinating outreach programs in higher education with progressive administrative experience is preferred.
  • Candidates from an APA-accredited graduate program and candidates from an APA-accredited internship program are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides oversight for CAPS Outreach, Social Media & Technology, and Wellness Promotion.
  • Ensures that policies and practices are in accordance with safe, effective and professional conduct, state and federal laws and mandates, licensure requirements, accreditation standards, and UNLV/ Nevada System of Higher Education mandates.
  • Ensures ongoing integration of outreach and prevention programming into the overall counseling center activities while being mindful of resources.
  • Oversees the development, interpretation, and execution of outreach policies and procedures.
  • Provides clinical services including individual, couples, and group counseling, initial consultation (intake evaluation), crisis assessment and intervention, and outreach programming and consultation services.
  • Provides direct clinical supervision and training to clinical trainees and/or psychological assistants.
  • Assists with departmental strategic planning and leadership responsibilities including administrative supervision of Wellness Promotion staff and student workers.
