About The Position

The Assistant Director of Nursing plays a vital role in the planning, organizing, developing, and directing the daily functions of the Nursing Department in compliance with Federal, State, and local standards and regulations. This position guarantees that high-quality care is maintained at all times and assumes the responsibilities of the Director of Nursing in their absence.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
• Current registered nurse license in the state of employment.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language is required.
• Ability to make independent decisions when necessary and to tactfully deal with patients/residents and staff.
• Knowledge of nursing practices and laws pertinent to long-term care is essential.
• Leadership and supervisory abilities, along with the willingness to improve nursing practices, are necessary.
• Must possess patience, tact, and a positive disposition while handling challenging situations.
• Subject to health and safety assessment in the workplace.

Nice To Haves

• BSN preferred.
• Two (2) years in a management/leadership position with long-term care experience.
• Additional acute/rehabilitation experience is a plus.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills are required.

Responsibilities

• Develops, interprets, implements, and evaluates standards of care, policies, and procedures for all patient/resident populations.
• Assures patient/resident rights and advocates by providing information while maintaining confidentiality.
• Guides staff in recognizing potential problems and mobilizes resources for effective action.
• Collaborates with the healthcare team to ensure safe care delivery and clarifies protocols with physicians and departments.
• Ensures competency of nursing staff and directs responses to complex patient/resident care priorities.
• Advocates for safe patient care delivery and participates in required committee meetings.
• Maintains current licensure and certifications, ensuring adherence to Standard Precautions.
• Participates in quality improvement activities, identifies care aspects for monitoring, and collaborates on infection control issues.
• Monitors the quality of medical records through chart reviews and recommends corrective actions as necessary.
• Develops and participates in interdisciplinary patient/resident education teaching plans.
• Assesses staff learning needs and aids in developing educational programs.
• Provides opportunities for student affiliations and collaborates with nursing faculty to evaluate student progress.
• Engages in educational programs and research to improve nursing practice.
• Takes responsibility for personal educational needs and shares knowledge with staff.
• Creates a professional network within the healthcare community.
• Adheres to policies and guidelines while evaluating clinical competencies and participating in performance appraisals of staff.
• Directs nursing personnel during emergencies and evaluates support services for quality care enhancement.
• Informs relevant departments about pertinent patient/resident care data.
• Completes performance appraisals as directed and recommends corrective actions as needed.
• Assumes responsibility for narcotics and controlled drugs and follows facility policies related to attendance and sick leave.
