About The Position

As a key member of the Office of Community Standards & Student Support, the Assistant Director combines strong interpersonal, organizational, and administrative skills to support students, uphold the Student Code of Conduct, and advance the Mission of the University and departmental goals. The Assistant Director works collaboratively with the Executive Director to administer the University's community standards process, provide individualized student support, and develop educational initiatives that promote student learning, accountability, well-being, and success. Responsibilities include reviewing reports, conducting investigations, meeting with students, facilitating resolution processes, and implementing learning-centered and restorative practices that encourage personal growth and community responsibility. The Assistant Director serves as a resource to students, faculty, staff, and families regarding student conduct processes, conflict resolution, student support concerns, and behavioral interventions. The position also contributes to outreach, prevention education, assessment efforts, and cross-campus collaborations designed to foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment. This is a 12-month position. The ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed is required. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Executive Director of Community Standards & Student Support and is evaluated through conferences, reports, and outcomes achieved.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in Higher Education, Education, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Student Affairs, or a related field is required, along with a minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in student conduct, student affairs, student services, residential life, conflict resolution, behavioral intervention, or a related area. Relevant graduate assistantships and internship experiences may be considered.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and administration of higher education.
  • Knowledge of student conduct and community standards practices, including developmental and restorative approaches.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, regulations, and best practices related to student conduct and student support.
  • Knowledge of conflict resolution, mediation, and student development theory.
  • Knowledge of student behavioral intervention and case management practices.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and ethical decision-making.
  • Ability to investigate concerns, gather information, evaluate facts, and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Ability to develop and implement learning-centered, restorative, and educational interventions consistent with the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Ability to maintain detailed records and ensure accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, families, and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to facilitate difficult conversations and respond effectively to students in distress.
  • Strong conflict resolution, mediation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Proficiency with conduct management databases, case management systems, data reporting tools, and Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

  • Review, investigate, and adjudicate reported incidents through the University's community standards process.
  • Conduct meetings with students to gather information, address concerns, determine accountability, and develop educational outcomes.
  • Utilize restorative and developmental approaches to promote student learning, responsibility, and community engagement.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and campus partners to address student concerns and provide coordinated support.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records related to conduct matters, student support concerns, and intervention efforts.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and assessment of programs and initiatives that support student learning, well-being, and community expectations.
  • Design and facilitate educational workshops, presentations, and prevention programs for students, student organizations, and campus stakeholders.
  • Facilitate conflict coaching, mediation, and restorative conversations to address interpersonal, group, and organizational disputes.
  • Assist with the recruitment, training, and development of conduct board members and hearing panelists.
  • Support the administration of student behavioral intervention and care processes, as appropriate.
  • Collaborate closely with the Center for Student Involvement and other University departments to ensure coordinated responses to student concerns, educational interventions, and student development initiatives.
  • Prepare reports, analyze trends, and assist with assessment efforts to enhance departmental effectiveness and student outcomes.
  • Remain current on emerging issues, best practices, and legal developments related to student conduct, student support, and higher education.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Community Standards & Student Support.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
