About The Position

The Assistant Director for Student Services assists in providing comprehensive academic advising and support service programming to his/her assigned varsity student-athletes. The position reports to the Sr. Associate Athletic Director, Academic & Student Services/SWA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited educational institution in a related field
  • 2 years of experience in Intercollegiate athletics required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationship(s) with student-athletes, administrators, coaches and campus constituents
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the University Community.
  • Ability and willingness to contribute actively to the mission of the University and to respect the Spiritan Catholic identity of Duquesne University.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in a related field
  • 3 or more years of experience in a Division I Academic Support Program preferred
  • Learning Theory knowledge and improvement strategies

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive academic advising and individualized support to assigned varsity student-athletes (primary responsibility may include football)
  • Monitor and evaluate academic progress toward degree completion, continuing eligibility, satisfactory academic progress, graduation and other institutional, conference and NCAAA requirements of assigned student-athletes
  • Develop and implement individualized academic success plans and interventions for student-athletes identified as having risk to graduation outcome or requiring additional learning supports
  • Advise assigned student-athletes regarding degree requirements, major curricula, academic resources, University policies and procedures
  • Communicate and collaborate with Student Success Coaches, Faculty, and other campus partners regarding academic progress, academic deficiencies, continuing eligibility concerns, team travel and other matters impacting student-athlete success
  • Compile and maintain accurate and timely academic records and reports
  • Maintain current knowledge of and adhere to all NCAA, Conference, University, Department of Athletics and other governing regulations, policies and procedures
  • Provides support for student-athlete and departmental programming during nights and weekends as necessary
  • Travel with assigned teams or participate in team travel as necessary
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Sr. Associate Athletic Director for Student Services
