About The Position

Marian University seeks an Assistant Dean of Graduate Medical Education (ADGME) to oversee the development, implementation, and assessment of programs and services for residency and fellowship programs. This role involves ensuring compliance with complex and changing policies and regulations, managing all aspects of Graduate Medical Education (GME), continuing medical education (CME), and GME-related research. The ADGME will collaborate with regional residency programs, direct efforts to expand osteopathic recognition, and promote the university's Catholic Franciscan mission and identity.

Requirements

  • A DO or MD degree with AOA or ABMS board certification.
  • At least seven (7) years of professional experience in academic administration (or related setting), including two (2) year of experience working in Graduate Medical Education.
  • At least five (5) years of experience teaching in academic institutions.
  • Qualifications commensurate with appointment at least Associate Professor.
  • A proven track record as a leader, teacher, and public servant in a variety of settings.
  • Hold an unlimited license to practice medicine in the state of Indiana.

Responsibilities

  • Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values and honoring the legacy of the founding congregation through transformative education, unity in diversity, leadership through service, integrating faith and life, and institutional policies.
  • Establishes, develops, and maintains clinical relationships with hospitals, physicians, and other clinical entities to support graduate medical education and the continuum of osteopathic education.
  • Provides leadership and support to assist GME-sponsoring institutions and GME sponsored programs in achieving substantial compliance with ACGME Institutional and Programmatic Requirements, thereby earning and/or maintaining ACGME Accreditation.
  • Promotes and supports GME programs of clinical partners in achieving and maintaining ACGME Osteopathic Recognition.
  • Collaborates with clinical partners to develop policies, protocols, and guidelines for the administration and conduct of GME at the institutional and program levels.
  • Provides leadership and support to the Graduate Medical Education Committee and/or subcommittees at affiliated programs.
  • Assists with regular internal program reviews in accordance with ACGME requirements and institutional protocols.
  • Builds upon accreditation requirements to improve the quality of clinical partners’ overall GME enterprise, including the development of new participating sites and new programs.
  • Serves as the MU-WCOM appointee to the Indiana Graduate Medical Education Board.
  • Collaborates with the Director of GME regarding advising processes, procedures, and activities to support MU-WCOM students in their pursuit of desired GME placement.
  • Directs efforts to obtain accreditation for CME sponsorship and oversees efforts to provide CME to affiliated physicians through teaching activities and/or CME programs that benefit the MU-WCOM community.
  • Develops and implements GME focused faculty development.
  • Contributes to partnership with Indiana Osteopathic Association to develop and deliver accredited CME activities.
  • Develops and oversees a fiscally responsible budget for GME.
  • Contributes to the selection and development of MU-WCOM Faculty, Staff, and students.
  • Contributes to pre-clerkship and clerkship teaching at MU-WCOM.
  • Prepares an annual report of GME activities in accordance with ACGME and COCA requirements and presents to hospital, regional, and potentially corporate leadership.
  • Collaborates with Sponsoring Institutions in the development of annual institutional goals and for the development of the Annual Institutional Review (AIR).
  • Provides professional coaching, mentoring, and guidance to faculty, staff, and students.
  • Participates in all committees articulated by the MU-WCOM faculty addendum and as directed by the Dean of WCOM.
  • Promotes and fosters an innovative teaching and learning environment conducive to academic excellence.
  • Coordinates activities consistent with the mission, strategic goals, and objectives of MU and MU-WCOM.
  • Supervises and evaluates appropriate faculty and staff, as indicated on the organizational chart.
  • Serves as a member of the Dean’s Cabinet participating in the overall operational optimization of the WCOM and supporting the initiatives of other team members in their assigned duties and the fulfillment of their responsibilities.
  • Advances the vision and strategies of the Dean of WCOM for the efficient and effective operation of the WCOM.
  • Engages with MU individuals and offices outside of the WCOM.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean of WCOM.
