Assistant Coach - 5th/6th Grade Boys Basketball
About The Position
The Riverdale School District is seeking an Assistant Coach for the 5th/6th Grade Boys Basketball program. This is a limited-term coaching position for the season running from November 2026 to February 2027. The coach will be responsible for upholding high ethical and professional standards, leading a successful community youth program, and serving as a role model for student-athletes. The role involves cooperating with other school-sponsored sports, developing off-season programs, and supporting other Riverdale School District athletics and activities. The Assistant Coach will report directly to the head coach and is expected to fulfill the same responsibilities when in charge of the team, adhering to all district rules, regulations, and administrative policies. The ideal candidate will display a competitive spirit, emotional self-control, goal-setting abilities, and a commitment to the school and district's philosophy of athletics. Responsibilities include enlisting participants, creating interest in the activity, organizing, instructing, and preparing athletes in the fundamentals of the game, coaching strategic play, and ensuring adherence to the rules.
Requirements
- Complete OSAA Coaching Certifications
- NFHS/ASEP Certification
- First Aid Card (CPR and AED trained)
- District Fingerprinting/Criminal Check

Responsibilities
- Directly responsible to the head coach and expected to carry out the same responsibilities as the head coach when put in charge of a team.
- Carry out all duties and responsibilities assigned within district rules and regulations.
- Follow the policy set by the administrator.
- Display a competitive spirit, possess emotional self-control, set goals and standards for themselves and the team.
- Reflect the school and district philosophy of athletics.
- Enlist participants and create interest in the activity by whatever means are available.
- Possess competencies that enable the coach to organize, instruct, and prepare athletes in the fundamentals of the game.
- Coach athletes to use the fundamentals strategically.
- Ensure athletes play by the rules set forth.
