About The Position

The Assistant Cheer Coach helps students develop cheerleading skills, discipline, sportsmanship, and self-esteem. The position assists with coaching, practices, contest scheduling, and supervision of the sport program, while supporting student safety and following district policies. The assistant coach reports to the athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluations in conjunction with the building administrator. Salary and work calendar are established by the Board. Performance is evaluated under the Board’s evaluation policy using the Performance Based Support Staff Evaluation process.

Requirements

Valid Missouri teacher or substitute certificate issued through DESE.
Possess the knowledge, skills, abilities, and physical attributes necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.

Nice To Haves

Previous coaching experience in the assigned sport.

Responsibilities

Assist in coaching participants in the skills necessary for achievement in cheerleading.
Assist in planning and scheduling a regular in-season practice program.
Work with the athletic director and Head Coach to schedule interscholastic contests.
Recommend purchases of equipment, supplies, and uniforms as appropriate.
Maintain attendance forms, insurance records, and similar paperwork.
Oversee safety conditions in the facility or area where the sport is conducted while students are present.
Establish performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition.
Enforce discipline and sportsmanlike behavior and establish and oversee penalties for breaches of standards.
Assist in organizing and supervising the overall sports program.
Demonstrate effective human-relations and communication skills.
Comply with district rules, regulations, and policies.
Maintain regular and consistent attendance.
Perform other duties as required or assigned.
