Anticipated Assistant Boys' Basketball Coach - Charlottesville Middle School (2026-27 School Year)
About The Position
Charlottesville Middle School is seeking a dedicated and experienced Assistant Boys' Basketball Coach to lead and inspire student-athletes. The coach will help develop a competitive, well-rounded basketball program; foster skill development and teamwork; and promote a strong work ethic, sportsmanship, character development, and academic success among team members. The role includes coaching and training, player development, game strategy and preparation, leadership and mentorship, and program administration. The coach will organize practices, assess player performance, provide feedback, support players on and off the court, and coordinate aspects of the varsity boys basketball program, including scheduling, budget management, and equipment procurement. The coach will collaborate with other coaches to maintain continuity and alignment across the basketball program.
Requirements
- Previous coaching experience, preferably at the high school level.
- Demonstrated success in developing and leading competitive basketball programs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of the rules and regulations governing high school basketball.
- Ability to mentor and motivate student-athletes academically and athletically.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive and progressive basketball program.
- Provide skill development, strategic coaching, and position-specific training.
- Foster a positive and inclusive team culture that encourages teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth.
- Monitor and assess individual player performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Provide constructive feedback and work with players to enhance their skills on and off the court.
- Implement strength and conditioning programs to prepare the team physically.
- Develop game strategies based on analysis of opponents.
- Organize and conduct regular team practices to prepare players for upcoming games.
- Encourage adaptive and strategic thinking during games.
- Serve as a positive role model, promoting character development, academic success, and responsible behavior.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to help players navigate challenges on and off the court.
- Maintain open communication with players, parents, and school administration.
- Coordinate and oversee aspects of the varsity boys basketball program, including scheduling, budget management, and equipment procurement.
- Collaborate with coaches to ensure continuity and alignment in the basketball program.
