Anticipated Head Boys' Basketball Coach - Charlottesville Middle School (2026-27 School Year)
About The Position
Charlottesville Middle School is seeking a dedicated and experienced Head Boys' Basketball Coach to lead and inspire student-athletes. The coach will develop a competitive, well-rounded basketball program, support players’ skill development, promote teamwork, and instill a strong work ethic. The role also promotes sportsmanship, character development, and academic success among team members. The coach will provide strategic coaching and position-specific training, monitor player performance, organize practices, prepare game strategies, and support athletes’ development on and off the court. The role includes mentoring student-athletes and coordinating the varsity boys basketball program’s scheduling, budget management, and equipment procurement in collaboration with other coaches.
Requirements
- Previous coaching experience, preferably at the high school level.
- Demonstrated success in developing and leading competitive basketball programs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of the rules and regulations governing high school basketball.
- Ability to mentor and motivate student-athletes academically and athletically.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive and progressive basketball program.
- Provide skill development, strategic coaching, and position-specific training.
- Foster a positive and inclusive team culture that encourages teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth.
- Monitor and assess individual player performance, identify areas for improvement, and provide constructive feedback.
- Work with players to enhance their skills on and off the court.
- Implement strength and conditioning programs to prepare the team physically.
- Develop and implement game strategies based on analysis of opponents.
- Organize and conduct regular team practices to prepare players for upcoming games.
- Encourage adaptive and strategic thinking during games.
- Serve as a positive role model and promote character development, academic success, and responsible behavior.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to players in addressing challenges on and off the court.
- Maintain open communication with players, parents, and school administration.
- Coordinate and oversee the varsity boys basketball program, including scheduling, budget management, and equipment procurement.
- Collaborate with coaches to ensure continuity and alignment across the basketball program.
