About The Position

Under the direct supervision of a medical technologist, this role involves initiating blood transfusions and performing a limited number of routine, repetitive, and clearly defined analyses for which proficiency has been demonstrated. The Assistant-Blood Bank will also perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• 6 Months of experience
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Proficiency in performing limited number of routine, repetitive, clearly defined analyses.

• Completion of Allied Health Course Work

Responsibilities

• Transfuse blood and blood components under the supervision of a medical technologist, according to established protocol, and including all patient identification and documentation requirements.
• Respond to requirements of the workload.
• Follow established procedures for infection control and safety.
• Perform routine technical procedures, including preparation of blood and blood components for transfusion, under supervision of a medical technologist according to AABB standards.
• Perform quality control procedures on reagents and equipment according to established protocol.
• Collect blood specimens.
• Assist in instruction of Medical Technology students and new employees in routine procedural techniques, as assigned.
• Demonstrates commitment to professional growth and competency.
