Assistant Bakery Manager
About The Position
The Assistant Bakery Manager supports the Bakery Manager with the department’s day-to-day operation and oversees operations when the Bakery Manager is absent. The role helps lead, train, develop, and support Bakery associates while maintaining company standards for product quality, freshness, merchandising, sanitation, safety, and customer service. It is suited to someone with bakery or retail experience who is ready to develop leadership skills and advance their career with Market 32/Price Chopper. The position supports bakery product preparation, baking, merchandising, presentation, special orders, inventory, shrink control, and department performance. It also helps keep the department and workstation clean, safe, organized, and efficient, and provides customers with helpful service and product knowledge.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and support others.
- Strong follow-through in achieving desired results and objectives.
- High school degree or equivalent.
- 6–12 months of related experience.
- Strong communication skills.
- Basic computer skills.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Bakery Manager with the day-to-day operation of the department and oversee operations in the manager’s absence.
- Assist with training, developing, and supporting Bakery associates; provide direction and help maintain an efficient, team-focused work environment.
- Ensure associates follow company safety, sanitation, training, and operating policies and procedures, including 5S efficiency standards.
- Maintain a neat, clean, safe, and organized department and workstation.
- Assist with product preparation, baking, merchandising, and final presentation.
- Inspect products and maintain quality, freshness, availability, variety, and presentation standards.
- Follow product preparation, baking, packaging, labeling, and presentation standards; fulfill customer special orders accurately and on time.
- Rotate and maintain products according to freshness and quality standards.
- Provide fast, friendly, helpful, and efficient customer service; assist with bakery products, special orders, and product questions.
- Support customer satisfaction through product availability and quality, service, and clean and sanitary conditions; demonstrate knowledge of department products and services.
- Assist with maintaining appropriate inventory levels in freezers, coolers, back rooms, supplies, and Deco Pac; monitor product levels to support availability and control excess inventory and shrink.
- Develop proficiency in department financial tasks, including paperwork, weekly shrink, transfer sales, and budgets.
- Support merchandising programs and keep displays stocked, organized, and visually appealing.
- Identify opportunities to improve sales, efficiency, product presentation, and customer satisfaction.
