About The Position

Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics, a Division I and Big Ten Conference member, is seeking a highly qualified candidate to fill the position of Assistant or Associate Director of Strategic Communications. The successful candidate will serve as the strategic communications and social media contact for the 14-time national champion and five-time defending national champion Penn State wrestling team. This position will also oversee student contacts with the men’s and women’s tennis teams. Assignments are subject to change.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, or a related field.
  • Work-related experience in communications or public relations.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and compliance.
  • Considerable initiative, creativity, and independence.
  • Minimally requires a bachelor's degree plus three (3) year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • PA State Police Criminal Background Check.
  • PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form.
  • Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.
  • Valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere, Spark, etc.).
  • Proficiency in website content management systems.
  • Proficiency in social media platforms.
  • Proficiency in Statcrew/NCAA Live Stats.
  • Experience in photography, recording, and editing video.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary strategic communications and social media contact for assigned teams.
  • Lead the overall communications, PR, media relations, and creative content strategy for the assigned teams.
  • Enhance and collaborate on student-athlete branding strategies and execution.
  • Generate feature content, photo, video, and other unique coverage for team social and website channels.
  • Produce online team record books, news releases, and feature stories.
  • Coordinate media requests in a strategic manner.
  • Facilitate social media in line with department goals.
  • Staff home and select away events.
  • Supervise student assistants, statistical crews, and other event support personnel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
