The Asset Protection Officer is an entry-level role responsible for helping create a safe, secure, and service-focused shopping environment. Officers maintain a visible, welcoming presence at store entrances, high-traffic areas, and high-shortage locations to help deter theft, identify potential risks, and support customer and colleague safety. They work with store teams and Asset Protection leaders to reduce shortage and deliver a positive experience for everyone entering the store. The role includes greeting customers, supporting safety and service, responding calmly and professionally to incidents and medical situations, and using technology and two-way communication devices to stay connected. Officers assist with apprehensions under the direction of Asset Protection Leaders, Captains, or Detectives; document theft, accidents, audits, and other incidents; conduct operational audits; and complete assigned Asset Protection tasks. They follow company policies and legal standards concerning apprehensions, searches, evidence handling, and confidential information, provide basic first aid when needed, and may testify in criminal or civil legal proceedings. The position requires flexible availability, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Full-time colleagues are typically scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week. The role involves prolonged standing and walking, may include occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, and requires the ability to apprehend shoplifters, spend extended periods in surveillance areas, and frequently lift or move up to 30 pounds. Macy’s offers competitive pay and benefits, including health and wellness coverage, a 401(k) match, paid time off, paid holidays, learning and leadership development, colleague resource groups, and volunteer opportunities.
