About The Position

As an Asset Protection Detective at Macy’s, you will help protect company assets, reduce shortage, and support a safe, customer-focused shopping environment. You will use surveillance, investigative tools, and partnerships with store teams and law enforcement to identify and respond to theft, recover merchandise, and help protect customers, colleagues, and the business. The role contributes to loss prevention while maintaining a safe and welcoming store environment through training, observation, investigation, and de-escalation. It includes preparing documentation and evidence, supporting investigations and audits, training colleagues on asset-protection protocols, responding to alarms and special assignments, and providing first aid when needed. The position requires following company policies and legal standards related to apprehensions, searches, and evidence preservation; court testimony may be required. Full-time colleagues are typically scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week. Schedules include weekend shifts, and hours depend on business needs and colleague availability.

Requirements

Ability to handle proprietary, sensitive, and confidential information with discretion and integrity.
For jobs in New York, a current New York State Security Guard License is required.

Nice To Haves

Experience in retail, customer service, asset protection, security, investigations, or law enforcement.
Ability to prepare accurate reports, statements, and documentation related to incidents and investigations.

Responsibilities

Use surveillance techniques, investigative tools, and reporting systems to identify theft, dishonest activity, and shortage trends.
Partner with Asset Protection leaders, store teams, and law enforcement to support investigations and protect company assets.
Use de-escalation tools and sound judgment to help maintain a safe environment for customers and colleagues.
Prepare clear and timely documentation, statements, reports, and evidence for investigations, audits, legal proceedings, and assigned activities.
Help identify, investigate, and respond to theft and dishonest activity; support the apprehension of shoplifters and dishonest employees in accordance with company policies and legal requirements.
Recover stolen merchandise and provide evidence and documentation to support investigations.
Maintain compliance with company policies and legal standards concerning apprehensions, searches, and evidence preservation.
Testify in criminal and civil cases as needed.
Respond to alarm calls, support special assignments, and facilitate first aid for customers and colleagues when needed.
Train colleagues on protocols that help protect company assets.
Build partnerships with store colleagues, Asset Protection leaders, and law enforcement to support investigations and shortage reduction.
Foster acceptance and respect in relationships with colleagues, customers, and communities.
