Asset Protection Detective, Baybrook - Full Time
About The Position
As an Asset Protection Detective at Macy’s, you will help protect company assets, reduce shortage, and support a safe, customer-focused shopping environment. You will use surveillance, investigative tools, and reporting systems to identify and respond to theft, recover merchandise, and support investigations in partnership with store teams, Asset Protection leaders, and law enforcement. The role also involves using sound judgment and de-escalation to protect customers and colleagues, documenting incidents and evidence, training colleagues on asset protection protocols, responding to alarm calls, and testifying in court when needed.
Requirements
- Ability to observe, identify, and respond to suspicious activity in a retail environment.
- Strong communication skills and ability to partner effectively with customers, colleagues, leaders, and law enforcement.
- Ability to use sound judgment, de-escalation tools, and company procedures to support a safe environment.
- Ability to handle proprietary, sensitive, and confidential information with discretion and integrity.
- For jobs in New York, a current New York State Security Guard License is required.
- Ability to apprehend shoplifters.
- Ability to sustain long periods of time enclosed in surveillance areas.
- Ability to frequently lift or move up to 30 pounds.

Responsibilities
- Use surveillance techniques, investigative tools, and reporting systems to identify theft, dishonest activity, and shortage trends.
- Partner with Asset Protection leaders, store teams, and law enforcement to support investigations and protect company assets.
- Use de-escalation tools and sound judgment to help maintain a safe environment for customers and colleagues.
- Prepare clear and timely documentation, statements, reports, and evidence to support investigations, audits, and legal proceedings.
- Train colleagues on protocols that help protect company assets.
- Identify, investigate, and respond to theft and dishonest activity.
- Support the apprehension of shoplifters and dishonest employees while following company policies and legal requirements.
- Recover stolen merchandise and provide statements, evidence, and documentation to support investigations.
- Maintain compliance with company policies and legal standards related to apprehensions, searches, and evidence preservation.
- Testify in court for criminal and civil cases as needed.
- Respond to alarm calls, support special assignments, and facilitate first aid for customers and colleagues when needed.
- Foster an environment of acceptance and respect with colleagues, customers, and communities.
