As an Asset Protection Detective at Macy’s, you help protect company assets, reduce shortage, and support a safe, customer-focused shopping environment. You use surveillance, investigative tools, and partnerships with store teams and law enforcement to identify and respond to theft, recover merchandise, and help protect customers, colleagues, and the business. The role emphasizes observation, investigation, de-escalation, sound judgment, and maintaining a welcoming store environment. You also support colleague readiness by training on asset protection protocols and may respond to alarm calls, assist with special assignments, facilitate first aid, and testify in court when needed. Full-time colleagues are typically scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week. Schedules include weekend shifts, and hours depend on business needs and colleague availability. The position involves prolonged standing and walking, time in enclosed surveillance areas, and frequent lifting or moving of up to 30 pounds. It may occasionally involve reaching above eye level, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, and requires the ability to apprehend shoplifters. Macy’s offers a dynamic, inclusive work environment with competitive pay and benefits, including health and wellness coverage, a 401(k) match, paid time off, eight paid holidays, learning and leadership development, colleague resource groups, and volunteer opportunities. Additional offerings include merchandise discounts, performance-based incentives, an annual merit review, and an Employee Assistance Program with mental health counseling and legal and financial advice.
