About The Position

As an Asset Protection Detective, you will help protect company assets, reduce shortage, and support a safe, customer-focused shopping environment. Using surveillance, investigative tools, and partnerships with store teams and law enforcement, you will identify and respond to theft, recover merchandise, and help protect customers, colleagues, and the business. This role supports loss reduction while maintaining a safe and welcoming store environment through training, observation, investigation, and de-escalation. It involves preparing documentation and evidence, supporting investigations and legal proceedings, responding to alarms, and helping colleagues understand asset protection protocols. The position requires prolonged periods of standing and walking, time in enclosed surveillance areas, and the ability to apprehend shoplifters. Full-time colleagues are typically scheduled for 30 or more hours per week. All schedules include weekend shifts, with hours dependent on business needs and colleague availability.

Requirements

Ability to observe, identify, and respond to suspicious activity in a retail environment.
Strong communication skills and ability to partner effectively with customers, colleagues, leaders, and law enforcement.
Ability to use sound judgment, de-escalation tools, and company procedures to support a safe environment.
Ability to handle proprietary, sensitive, and confidential information with discretion and integrity.
For jobs in New York, a current New York State Security Guard License is required.
Ability to perform prolonged standing and walking around the store or department.
Ability to sustain long periods in enclosed surveillance areas.
Ability to apprehend shoplifters.
Frequently lift or move up to 30 pounds.
Requires close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

Use surveillance techniques, investigative tools, and reporting systems to identify theft, dishonest activity, and shortage trends.
Partner with Asset Protection leaders, store teams, and law enforcement to support investigations and protect company assets.
Use de-escalation tools and sound judgment to help maintain a safe environment for customers and colleagues.
Prepare clear documentation, statements, evidence, and timely reports for investigations, audits, incidents, and legal proceedings.
Identify, investigate, and respond to theft and dishonest activity.
Use surveillance to support the apprehension of shoplifters and dishonest employees, following company policies and legal requirements.
Recover stolen merchandise and provide statements, evidence, and documentation to support investigations.
Maintain compliance with company policies and legal standards for apprehensions, searches, and evidence preservation.
Testify in court for criminal and civil cases as needed.
Respond to alarm calls, support special assignments, and facilitate first aid for customers and colleagues when needed.
Train colleagues on protocols that help protect company assets.
Foster acceptance and respect in relationships with colleagues, customers, and communities.
