About The Position

As an Asset Protection Detective at Macy’s, you will help protect company assets, reduce shortage, and support a safe, customer-focused shopping environment. You will use surveillance, investigative tools, and strong partnerships with store teams and law enforcement to identify and respond to theft, recover merchandise, and help protect customers, colleagues, and the business. The role supports a safe and welcoming store through training, observation, investigation, and de-escalation.

Requirements

• Ability to observe, identify, and respond to suspicious activity in a retail environment.
• Strong communication skills and ability to partner effectively with customers, colleagues, leaders, and law enforcement.
• Ability to use sound judgment, de-escalation tools, and company procedures to support a safe environment.
• Ability to handle proprietary, sensitive, and confidential information with discretion and integrity.
• For jobs in New York, a current New York State Security Guard License is required.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in retail, customer service, asset protection, security, investigations, or law enforcement.
• Ability to prepare accurate reports, statements, and documentation related to incidents and investigations.
• Experience using surveillance systems, reporting tools, or investigative technology.
• Ability to train or coach colleagues on asset protection protocols, shortage reduction, or safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Use surveillance techniques, investigative tools, and reporting systems to identify theft, dishonest activity, and shortage trends.
• Partner with Asset Protection leaders, store teams, and law enforcement to support investigations and protect company assets.
• Use de-escalation tools and sound judgment to help maintain a safe environment for customers and colleagues.
• Prepare clear documentation, statements, evidence, and timely, accurate reports for investigations, audits, legal proceedings, and assigned activities.
• Identify, investigate, and respond to theft and dishonest activity, including supporting the apprehension of shoplifters and dishonest employees in accordance with company policies and legal requirements.
• Recover stolen merchandise and provide statements, evidence, and documentation to support investigations.
• Maintain compliance with company policies and legal standards related to apprehensions, searches, and evidence preservation.
• Testify in court for criminal and civil cases as needed.
• Respond to alarm calls, support special assignments, and facilitate first aid for customers and colleagues when needed.
• Train or support colleague readiness on protocols that protect company assets.
• Foster an environment of acceptance and respect with colleagues, customers, and communities.
