Asset Protection Detective, Willowbrook Mall - NJ - Full Time
About The Position
As an Asset Protection Detective, you help protect company assets, reduce shortage, and support a safe, customer-focused shopping environment. You use surveillance, investigative tools, and partnerships with store teams and law enforcement to identify and respond to theft, recover merchandise, and help protect customers, colleagues, and the business. The role supports loss reduction while maintaining a safe and welcoming store environment through training, observation, investigation, and de-escalation. Responsibilities also include documenting incidents and investigations, supporting audits and legal proceedings, training colleagues on protective protocols, responding to alarm calls, supporting special assignments, and providing first aid when needed. The position requires compliance with company policies and legal standards related to apprehensions, searches, and evidence preservation. Court testimony may be required for criminal and civil cases. The position involves prolonged standing and walking, occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, the ability to apprehend shoplifters, extended periods in surveillance areas, and frequently lifting or moving up to 30 pounds. Colleagues work schedules that include weekend shifts; hours depend on business needs and colleague availability.
Requirements
- Ability to observe, identify, and respond to suspicious activity in a retail environment.
- Strong communication skills and ability to partner effectively with customers, colleagues, leaders, and law enforcement.
- Ability to use sound judgment, de-escalation tools, and company procedures to support a safe environment.
- Ability to handle proprietary, sensitive, and confidential information with discretion and integrity.
- For jobs in New York, a current New York State Security Guard License is required.
- Ability to apprehend shoplifters.
- Ability to sustain long periods of time enclosed in surveillance areas.
- Ability to frequently lift or move up to 30 pounds.
- Close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

- Train colleagues on protocols that help protect company assets.
- Identify, investigate, and respond to theft and dishonest activity to protect customers, colleagues, and company assets.
- Use surveillance techniques to support the apprehension of shoplifters and dishonest employees while following company policies and legal requirements.
- Recover stolen merchandise and provide statements, evidence, and documentation to support investigations.
- Prepare timely and accurate reports related to theft incidents, investigations, audits, and assigned activities.
- Maintain compliance with company policies and legal standards related to apprehensions, searches, and evidence preservation.
- Testify in court for criminal and civil cases, as needed.
- Respond to alarm calls, support special assignments, and facilitate first aid for customers and colleagues when needed.
- Foster an environment of acceptance and respect with colleagues, customers, and communities.
