About The Position

As an Asset Protection Detective at Macy’s, you will help protect company assets, reduce shortage, and support a safe, customer-focused shopping environment. You will use surveillance, investigative tools, and partnerships with store teams and law enforcement to identify and respond to theft, recover merchandise, and protect customers, colleagues, and the business.

The role involves observing and investigating suspicious or dishonest activity, supporting shoplifter and employee-theft apprehensions in accordance with company policies and legal requirements, preparing reports and evidence, and maintaining compliance with standards for apprehensions, searches, and evidence preservation. You may testify in criminal or civil court, respond to alarm calls, support special assignments, and facilitate first aid when needed. You will also help train colleagues on asset protection protocols and contribute to a respectful, safe store environment.

The position requires prolonged standing and walking, occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, the ability to apprehend shoplifters, and the ability to spend extended periods in surveillance areas. The role frequently involves lifting or moving up to 30 pounds and requires close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Full-time colleagues are typically scheduled for 30 or more hours per week. Schedules include weekend shifts, and hours depend on business needs and colleague availability.

Requirements

• For jobs in New York, a current New York State Security Guard License is required.
• Ability to perform prolonged standing and walking, occasionally reach above eye level, stoop, kneel, or crouch, and apprehend shoplifters.
• Ability to sustain long periods in enclosed surveillance areas.

Responsibilities

• Use surveillance techniques, investigative tools, and reporting systems to identify theft, dishonest activity, and shortage trends.
• Partner with Asset Protection leaders, store teams, and law enforcement to support investigations and protect company assets.
• Use de-escalation tools and sound judgment to help maintain a safe environment for customers and colleagues.
• Prepare clear documentation, statements, evidence, and timely, accurate reports related to incidents, investigations, audits, and assigned activities.
• Identify, investigate, and respond to theft and dishonest activity, including supporting shoplifter and dishonest-employee apprehensions in accordance with company policies and legal requirements.
• Recover stolen merchandise and provide statements, evidence, and documentation to support investigations.
• Maintain compliance with company policies and legal standards related to apprehensions, searches, and evidence preservation.
• Testify in court for criminal and civil cases as needed.
• Respond to alarm calls, support special assignments, and facilitate first aid for customers and colleagues when needed.
• Train or support colleagues on protocols that protect company assets and help reduce shortage.
