Asset Protection Detective, Quaker Bridge Mall - Full Time
About The Position
As an Asset Protection Detective at Macy’s, you will help protect company assets, reduce shortage, and support a safe, customer-focused shopping environment. You will use surveillance, investigative tools, and partnerships with store teams and law enforcement to identify and respond to theft, recover merchandise, and help protect customers, colleagues, and the business. The role involves observing and investigating suspicious activity, supporting the apprehension of shoplifters and dishonest employees in accordance with company policies and legal requirements, preparing incident reports and evidence, and maintaining compliance with legal standards for apprehensions, searches, and evidence preservation. You may testify in criminal and civil cases, respond to alarm calls, support special assignments, and facilitate first aid when needed. You will also help train colleagues on asset protection protocols and foster respectful relationships with colleagues, customers, and communities. The position requires prolonged periods of standing and walking, occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, the ability to apprehend shoplifters, and the ability to spend extended periods in enclosed surveillance areas. Frequent lifting or moving of up to 30 pounds is required. Full-time colleagues are typically scheduled for 30 or more hours per week, including weekend shifts; hours depend on business needs and colleague availability.
Requirements
- Ability to observe, identify, and respond to suspicious activity in a retail environment.
- Strong communication skills and ability to partner effectively with customers, colleagues, leaders, and law enforcement.
- Ability to use sound judgment, de-escalation tools, and company procedures to support a safe environment.
- Ability to handle proprietary, sensitive, and confidential information with discretion and integrity.
- For jobs in New York, a current New York State Security Guard License is required.
- Ability to apprehend shoplifters.
- Ability to sustain long periods of time enclosed in surveillance areas.
- Frequently lift or move up to 30 pounds.
- Close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

- Recover stolen merchandise and provide statements, evidence, and documentation to support investigations.
- Prepare timely and accurate reports related to theft incidents, investigations, audits, and assigned activities.
- Maintain compliance with company policies and legal standards related to apprehensions, searches, and evidence preservation.
- Testify in court for criminal and civil cases as needed.
- Respond to alarm calls, support special assignments, and facilitate first aid for customers and colleagues when needed.
