Assembler Large Engine

Fairbanks Morse Defense•Beloit, WI

About The Position

Fairbanks Morse Engine (FME), based in Beloit, Wisconsin, manufactures, assembles, tests, and distributes heavy-duty, medium-speed reciprocating engines under the Fairbanks Morse® and ALCO® brand names. FME supplies engines to naval marine customers and shipyards, including the U.S. Navy, Military Sealift Command, U.S. Coast Guard, and Canadian Coast Guard. FME is a division of Fairbanks Morse Defense. The Assembler Large Engine assembles a variety of large engines to drawing specifications and standard work documents. The work includes machining and finishing operations as needed; assembling engine components, subassemblies, controls, piping, and related assemblies; and fitting, aligning, and adjusting parts to maintain tolerances. The assembler also disassembles and reassembles parts during wear-in and testing, then dismantles and cleans engines, replaces worn parts, and prepares engines for shipment to customer or company specifications. Parts weighing up to 75 pounds may be handled by hand; heavier parts are moved with a hoist or overhead crane as appropriate. The position uses a broad range of hand, pneumatic, electric, hydraulic, measuring, lifting, and cleaning tools and equipment, along with blueprints and standard work documents. The role requires working with solvents and extreme heat or cold, working at different heights while wearing a harness, and qualifying or becoming certified to operate a forklift and overhead crane. The assembler must be able to work independently without constant direct oversight and perform effectively under pressure.
