About The Position

We're on the lookout for a passionate Lighter Level Artist to contribute their skills to a cutting-edge PC/console video game project. Partnering with the Dungeons and Dragons license, this stylized survival craft game promises to redefine the genre and capture the imaginations of players worldwide.

Requirements

  • Deep technical knowledge of Unity, specifically the constraints and limitations of URP
  • Proven experience with real-time lighting, dynamic shadows, light probes, and optimizing render features
  • Expertise in real-time Global Illumination (GI) alternatives and Adaptive Probe Volumes (APV), and knowledge of how to maintain compelling visuals/shading (AO, indirect bounce) when the environment geometry is constantly changing
  • Ability to create evocative moods, from the cozy safety of a player’s stronghold to the oppressive gloom of a deep dungeon
  • A proactive mindset regarding performance optimization and a keen interest in the latest lighting frameworks and shading best practices
  • Proficiency in managing Volumes and Post-Processing overrides
  • Experience scripting or configuring lighting triggers that handle smooth transitions
  • Knowledge & proven experience working with PBL workflows
  • Knowledge of enhanced atmospheric VFX production
  • Experience shipping & optimizing cross-platform titles

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience on an Open World / Survival Craft title
  • Deep understanding of Forward+ vs. Deferred rendering paths in Unity 6
  • Ability to implement light culling, LOD systems for lights, and optimized shadow map resolutions to maintain solid performance on targeted devices

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement dynamic lighting for diverse outdoor biomes and interior dungeons.
  • Manage and optimize Day/Night cycles and weather-based atmospheric shifts.
  • Configure and fine-tune Post-Processing stacks to elevate the art direction while staying within performance budgets.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of the Universal Render Pipeline (URP), monitoring its evolution to help the team pivot toward proven new rendering solutions when necessary.
  • Collaborate with the Level Art and Level Design teams to dress environments and ensure world-building supports both the gameplay and mood in mind.
  • Ensure visual consistency, as players can interact and modify the world.
