About The Position

The K-12 Art teacher will create a welcoming and inclusive class environment favorable to learning and personal growth for all students in alignment with the district's mission and core commitments. This role involves planning and implementing instruction based upon district standards and best instructional practices aligned to the K-12 instructional model, and implementing the instructional program, including practices to support a multi-tiered system of support. The teacher will establish positive relationships and rapport with students, parents, and staff members, and understand and implement culturally responsive curriculum which is standards based. Utilizing formative and summative assessment to monitor and differentiate instructional practice based upon learners, and analyzing assessment data to inform curriculum implementation and instructional decisions are key responsibilities. The teacher will document student progress, learning, and outcomes; address specific educational needs of students; and provide feedback to students, parents/guardians and administration regarding student progress. Creating a safe and positive learning environment to support all students and maintaining professional competence through in-service education, coursework, and professional growth activities are also essential. The role requires motivating students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to be productive citizens, and continually supporting student growth academically, socially and emotionally. Maintaining effective communication with colleagues, district leadership and families to create a classroom culture that supports high expectations for student learning, and providing regular and effective communication with families to support home/school connections are expected. The teacher must abide by employment provisions provided for in the collective bargaining agreement and act as a mandatory reporter for incidents of child abuse, harassment, intimidation, bullying, fights, substance abuse, etc., while observing strict confidentiality regarding student data and information.

Requirements

  • Valid teaching certificate for the State of New York with required endorsement in area of assignment
  • Successful New York State fingerprint clearance
