About The Position

This posting is for an applicant pool for affiliate faculty in Art Education at Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver). These are temporary, part-time, non-tenure track academic positions. The number of positions varies by semester based on program needs. MSU Denver, established in 1965, serves over 16,000 diverse students, providing affordable, flexible, and holistic education. It is a Hispanic-Serving Institution (gHSI) and the only Seal of Excelencia certified institution in Colorado, serving the most diverse undergraduate student population in the state, including many first-generation students. The Department of Art is part of the College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences.

Requirements

  • MA or MFA in Art or Art Education, or a MAT
  • Three years of professional and/or teaching experience

Nice To Haves

  • MFA or Doctorate in Art or Art Education
  • Three years of teaching experience in K-12
  • Knowledge of contemporary art education practice and theory
  • Experience working with and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse urban student population including (but not limited to) students of color, LBGTQIA students, students from low-income backgrounds, first-generation students, students with disabilities, undocumented students, non-traditional students, student veterans, and English language learners

Responsibilities

  • Teach one to three classes in art education, which may include arts and creative thinking, introduction to art education, and the inclusive art classroom.
  • Classes may be offered in person, remote, or a hybrid setting.
  • Deliver course content to students.
  • Prepare course materials and lesson plans.
  • Grade student work.
  • Provide students with robust feedback in a timely manner.
  • Address student questions consistent with university, college/school, and department policies.
  • Provide online or in person academic support to students as needed and appropriate for the teaching assignment.
  • Provide instruction consistent with the content and learning objectives of the regular course syllabus and, if required, with department course coordination policies.
  • Comply with university-wide student evaluation of instruction policies and peer observation policies.
  • Adapt and learn new modes of instruction.
  • Be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse student population.
