About The Position

Airgas is seeking an Area Branch Operations Manager (ABOM) to partner with and support branch managers across retail locations. The role helps advance retail sales, oversees local distribution operations, and serves as an expert resource for operational excellence, safety, and compliance across the area. Most of the work is conducted in the field, collaborating directly with branch managers and supporting location operations and audits.

The manager partners with 4 to 6 branch managers to support their growth, daily operations, and team success. The role also works with sales teams, distribution and retail functions, and senior area leaders to advance branch performance and customer service. The position is based in the Clinton Township, Michigan retail shop, with regular field work across assigned locations. The schedule is Monday through Friday, with no weekend work.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Experience supporting multiple locations is considered ideal.
• Experience partnering with and developing leaders who manage teams.
• Ideally, 5 or more years of growing experience in branch retail sales or branch/production operations.
• Ability to read and comprehend manuals and documentation such as material safety data sheets and SOPs.
• Analytical skills and familiarity with key metrics used by sales and branches.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build alignment and foster relationships across functions.
• Effective verbal and written communication, active listening, and the ability to clarify information as needed.
• Ability to work supportively with others across the organization and identify whom to engage to achieve shared goals.
• Communicates with clarity, empathy, and respect.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor's or associate degree.
• Prior SAP experience.
• Experience with logistics, HAZMAT, and DOT.
• Intermediate knowledge of Google Suite applications.
• Prior experience with sales and/or operations in the distribution industry.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative approach to resolving challenges and making recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Implement company Safety & Security rules and guidelines, and support staff in maintaining them.
• Recognize and analyze customer needs, expectations, and priorities to propose reliable, competitive solutions across sales channels.
• Provide training and facilitate operational audits on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); share insights and results with DMs/AVPs.
• Partner to track branch progress and communicate updates with the AVP and DM.
• Formulate sales and promotional strategies to advance key objectives and shared growth.
• Partner with and support assigned sales teams in executing strategies and achieving continuous growth.
• Build alignment with key accounts and nurture long-term customer relationships.
• Design pricing guidelines and strategies to advance market presence and customer value.
• Partner with 4 to 6 branch managers to support their growth, daily operations, and team success.
• Advance retail sales and performance goals across assigned retail locations.
• Conduct operational and compliance audits, serving as a supportive resource for location teams.
• Build alignment across distribution and retail functions to deliver exceptional service and maintain safety standards.
• Collaborate on budget planning, P&L oversight, and KPI tracking to advance branch performance.
