About The Position

AECOM is hiring an Archaeologist I to provide field and laboratory support for cultural resource projects throughout the United States. The role involves archaeological fieldwork, laboratory analysis, and documentation, including pedestrian surveys, shovel test pits, test units and features, mapping, and site documentation. Laboratory tasks may include washing, cataloging, marking, labeling, and processing artifacts, as well as preparing records for curation. Candidates with archaeological laboratory experience may be invited to take on additional artifact processing and curation work, which may require daily, uncompensated commutes to the laboratory. The Archaeologist I works under the direction of Crew Chiefs, a Field Director, and a Principal Investigator, coordinating with technical field, laboratory, office, management, and administrative staff to help meet AECOM quality standards. Project-based support may include graphic assistance, writing, travel coordination, organizing project paperwork, and assembling field equipment. The role may also involve data entry, manual excavation, moving wheelbarrows of dirt, and building or repairing field or laboratory equipment. Travel to assembly points and project sites is expected, and travel expenses are compensated. Multiple overnight stays at company expense should be anticipated for most project work. This is a part-time, as-needed position based on project needs. Relocation assistance and sponsorship for U.S. employment authorization are not available. Selected candidates must attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office.
