About The Position

The Archaeological Repository Curatorial Assistant is a 1.0 FTE (full-time-equivalent) extended-temporary position (2-years) that functions within the Collections Division of the Arizona State Museum (ASM), University of Arizona (UA), reporting to the Archaeological Repository Manager. The incumbent is primarily responsible for assisting the Archaeological Repository Manager in verifying storage locations of archaeological collections and associated metadata, reviewing box and bag inventories for accuracy and curation processing completeness, and preparing boxes to be moved to an offsite location.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to lift, move, and handle heavy boxes (up to 50 lbs).
Knowledge of general anthropology, archaeology, and Cultural Resources Management.
Knowledge of archaeological principles, methods, practices, and vocabulary.
Knowledge of major classes of prehistoric and historic material culture.
Skilled in maintaining computerized databases.
Ability to provide strong attention to detail, organizational and multitasking skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and work well with others in an office setting.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in anthropology or related discipline with an emphasis in archaeology or collections management.

Responsibilities

Assists staff with the pre-move box assessment.
Reviewing box inventory accuracy.
Reviewing box labeling accuracy.
Auditing the boxes for box- and bag-level curation processing completeness.
Assigning box numbers to boxes that do not yet have box numbers.
Preparing boxes with additional packing materials to protect contents.
Applying a barcode to the box.
Assists with digital data entry related to archaeological box preparation into ASM databases.
Assists with initial archaeological box shelf check and box assessment.
Provides general assistance to the Archaeological Repository Manager, Head of the Collections Division, Archaeological Collections Curator, and the Museum Registrar.
