APS Intake Worker

About The Position

This position involves answering calls for the APS phone system, gathering information, and entering it into the APS database. The role requires processing reports received electronically and by phone, and using critical thinking to assess information regarding abuse, neglect, and exploitation. The Intake Worker will apply statute and rule to these reports, utilize trauma-informed care principles when interacting with callers, and professionally gather sensitive information with tact and sensitivity. The role also includes educating others on the function of APS and providing appropriate referrals to callers in need.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Family & Human Development, Criminal Justice, Gerontology or a closely related field is preferred.
  • At least 4 years of paid employment or volunteering working with older adults and/or people with disabilities (vulnerable adults).
  • This employee will operate under close and regularly provided professional supervision.
  • Use common computer programs and be proficient in spelling, grammar and typing.
  • Must have a valid Utah driver's license.

  • Preference may be given to those that speak Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Answer calls that come into the APS phone system.
  • Gather information and enter it into the APS database.
  • Process reports received through electronic means as well as by phone.
  • Read and assess information gathered to make sound decisions regarding abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
  • Use critical thinking to apply statute and rule to the reports received by APS and make decisions regarding the reports.
  • Apply trauma informed care principles while taking information from callers by phone.
  • Professionally be able to gather information regarding situations of abuse, neglect, or exploitation from callers while showing sensitivity and tact.
  • Use common computer programs and be proficient in spelling, grammar and typing.
  • Educate others on the role of APS.
  • Provide appropriate referrals to other agencies to callers in need.
