About The Position

The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Ottawa is seeking a Regular Part-Time Professor to teach APPLIED PROBABILITY (SYS5120, Section a) during the 2027 Winter Semester. This role involves developing and delivering engaging lectures, creating course materials, designing assignments and projects, conducting assessments, providing feedback, holding office hours, and collaborating with other professors. The instructor will be expected to use Brightspace for course administration and incorporate innovative teaching methodologies to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes. The course is scheduled for Tuesdays from 16:00 to 17:30 and Thursdays from 14:30 to 16:00. Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Systems Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated expertise in probability theory, stochastic processes, and their applications in engineering
  • Minimum of 3 years teaching experience at the graduate level
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in using mathematical software packages (e.g., MATLAB, R, or Python) for probability simulations and analysis
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse learning environment

  • Industry experience applying probability theory in engineering contexts
  • Publication record in relevant peer-reviewed journals
  • Experience with online or hybrid course delivery
  • Familiarity with interdisciplinary approaches in engineering education

Responsibilities
