About The Position

The Applications Scientist – NGS Design provides expert technical support and custom next-generation sequencing (NGS) panel design for customers, Sales, and internal teams during the pre-sales process. The role also supports collaborative projects and documents customer interactions. It is part of the NGS Design group within Scientific Applications Support at Integrated DNA Technologies (IDT), a Danaher operating company. The position is on-site in Coralville, Iowa, or Raleigh, North Carolina, and reports to the Scientific Applications Support Manager - NGS.

The role provides custom xGen hybridization and amplicon panel designs, technical product support through presentations, conference calls, and email, and consultation or escalation support to IDT service departments and Sales. It also entails recording customer interactions in the CRM database and providing backup design and analysis support for collaborative projects, strategic partners, and NGS applications development.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Biology, Chemistry, or Bioinformatics.
• Deep expertise in NGS applications; more than 3 years in the genomics industry is preferred.
• Experience designing custom capture panels for target enrichment; more than 1 year of experience is preferred.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, with messages appropriately tailored to the audience.
• Ability to understand and articulate complex scientific, interpersonal, regulatory, and business issues.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree or PhD.
• Experience in a customer support or customer-facing role.
• Advanced theoretical knowledge, practical experience, and troubleshooting experience in NGS library preparation and targeted resequencing workflows.
• Experience with NGS bioinformatics algorithms/software, Python, and Galaxy.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, prompt xGen hybridization and amplicon custom panel designs during the pre-sales process.
• Provide technical product support to customers through presentations, conference calls, and email.
• Support IDT service departments and Sales teams through consultation or escalation of product questions, customer issues, and technical inquiries.
• Document incoming and outgoing customer interactions in IDT’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database.
• Provide backup design and analysis support for collaborative projects, strategic partners, and NGS applications development.
