About The Position
Onto Innovation is a process-control company offering technologies across the semiconductor value chain, including metrology, defect inspection, interconnect composition analysis, factory analytics, and lithography. The Applications Scientist will characterize IRIS-G2/G3 hardware and software features, develop measurement methods and throughput models, and support customer evaluations and production deployments. The role also analyzes characterization data and works with customers, technical support, and headquarters engineering to troubleshoot tool performance and recommend product improvements. Customer-site support and travel of up to 30% per year are required.
Requirements
- Ph.D. or M.S. in Engineering Sciences, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Applied Sciences, Optics, or Physics.
- Ability to systematically and independently identify and troubleshoot problems.
- Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of statistics and design of experiments.
- Knowledge of basic programming skills.
Nice To Haves
- More than 2 years of work experience in semiconductor metrology is preferred.
- Experience with semiconductor fabrication and process integration is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Lead characterization of new IRIS-G2/G3 hardware and software features.
- Develop measurement methodologies, throughput models, and Best Known Methods (BKMs).
- Support customer demonstrations, pilot evaluations, and production qualifications.
- Investigate and resolve customer escalations related to tool performance and applications.
- Interface with technical support and headquarters engineering regarding procedures and equipment enhancements.
- Analyze characterization data and provide recommendations for product improvements.
- Support installation, startup, and deployment activities at customer sites.
- Travel as required to support customer activities and product deployments, up to 30% per year.
