Senior Applications Scientist
About The Position
Onto Innovation is a process-control company offering technologies across the semiconductor value chain, including 3D metrology, macro defect inspection, metal interconnect composition, factory analytics, and lithography for advanced semiconductor packaging. The Senior Applications Scientist will characterize new Atlas hardware and software features, develop measurement methodologies and throughput models, support customer evaluations and deployments, and analyze results to inform product improvements. The role includes customer-facing work and travel as required, up to 30% per year. The position requires a relevant advanced degree and experience in semiconductor metrology. Candidates should be able to troubleshoot independently, work with minimal supervision, and apply statistics, design of experiments, and basic programming skills. Experience with semiconductor fabrication and process integration is a plus.
Requirements
- Ph.D. or M.S. in Engineering Sciences, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Applied Sciences, Optics, or Physics.
- Ability to systematically and independently identify and troubleshoot problems.
- Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of statistics and design of experiments.
- Knowledge of basic programming skills.
Nice To Haves
- More than 5 years of work experience in semiconductor metrology (preferred).
- Experience with semiconductor fabrication and process integration.
Responsibilities
- Lead characterization of new Atlas hardware and software features.
- Develop measurement methodologies, throughput models, and Best Known Methods (BKMs).
- Support customer demonstrations, pilot evaluations, and production qualifications.
- Investigate and resolve customer escalations related to tool performance and applications.
- Interface with technical support and headquarters engineering on procedures and equipment enhancements.
- Analyze characterization data and provide recommendations for product improvements.
- Support installation, startup, and deployment activities at customer sites.
- Travel as required to support customer activities and product deployments, up to 30% per year.
