About The Position

The APC Service Line Lead for Surgical Specialties serves as the designated Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) leader for the service line. Reporting to the Director of Advanced Practice, the Lead partners with the Surgical Specialties Service Line Physician Chair, operational leaders, and other stakeholders to provide strategic, operational, and professional leadership and supervisory oversight for APCs. The role advances an integrated advanced practice model by promoting practice excellence and standardization, optimizing scope of practice, improving access and capacity, developing future APC leaders, and serving as a liaison between APCs and organizational leadership. The Lead supports service-line goals, workforce initiatives, clinical practice models, quality improvement, provider engagement, and professional development. Responsibilities include supporting recruitment, onboarding, performance management, employee engagement, coaching, succession planning, and retention, in collaboration with operational leadership. The role also promotes consistent practice standards, evidence-based care, effective APC utilization, team-based care, and improvements in access, continuity, quality, safety, patient experience, and operational efficiency across ambulatory, inpatient, procedural, perioperative, and surgical environments. This is an internal, term-limited leadership appointment available exclusively to full-time SWBMG APCs currently practicing within the organization and service line. The selected Lead maintains a 0.7 FTE clinical practice in their specialty and receives 0.3 FTE protected time for leadership and administrative responsibilities. The appointment is for two years and may be renewed based on performance, agreed-upon goals, organizational priorities, and leadership needs. It does not include additional compensation or a change in employment status. Clinical expectations will be adjusted to accommodate leadership duties. If the appointment ends or is not renewed, the APC returns to their regular clinical position and applicable clinical expectations and compensation structure. Annual goals are established with the Director of Advanced Practice and service-line leadership. Performance is reviewed regularly and may be assessed through goal achievement, service-line outcomes, leadership effectiveness, APC engagement, workforce initiatives, quality metrics, and progress toward strategic objectives. The Lead collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, SPMF leadership, and CPMC Operations, and must maintain the licensure, certifications, credentials, and clinical qualifications required for continued APC practice.
