About The Position

Provide customer service primarily for animal and pet care needs. The role focuses on selling animal care merchandise, recommending suitable products, and ensuring the health and well-being of animals in-store. The position also assists with customer carry-outs and merchandise stocking and restocking when requested, and provides sales-floor support in other departments, such as automotive, plumbing, electrical, and agriculture, when needed.

The role includes advising customers on pet nutrition, care, and product use; assisting with merchandise receiving, displays, and inventory activities; answering routine telephone inquiries; and maintaining a clean, organized pet and animal health section. Employees use appropriate material-handling tools and equipment to move merchandise. Management may assign other duties related to customer service, merchandising, and product handling.

Requirements

• Strong knowledge of and experience with pet care, nutrition, and relevant products.
• Knowledge of retail floor sales techniques.
• Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
• Ability to sort, check, count, and verify numbers.
• Ability to resolve difficult or stressful customer service issues.
• Ability to work as part of a team.
• Ability to stand for the majority of a shift.
• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and physically participate in resets, remodels, and reconstruction projects.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of horses and tack.
• Exposure to visual merchandising and product placement techniques.
• High school diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers promptly and help them select appropriate pet products, food, toys, grooming supplies, and health-related items.
• Provide product knowledge and recommend suitable alternatives or accessory goods.
• Advise and assist customers with ordering specialized merchandise when needed.
• Provide accurate advice on pet nutrition, care, and product use.
• Assist with receiving and displaying merchandise in accordance with established policies, procedures, and standards.
• Answer telephones and handle routine customer inquiries.
• Maintain a clean and organized pet and animal health section through general floor housekeeping, and monitor merchandise condition and safekeeping.
• Prepare for and participate in inventory cycle activities.
• Move material using appropriate handling methods and equipment, including by hand, hand truck, pallet jack, dolly, forklifts, or other vehicles.
• Assist with customer carry-outs and merchandise stocking and restocking when requested.
• Support the sales floor in other departments when needed.
• Perform other duties assigned by management related to customer service, merchandising, and product handling.
