Loma Linda University Faculty Medical Group’s Department of Anesthesiology seeks board-eligible or board-certified anesthesiologists to join its academic team on a per diem basis. The position offers clinical practice in an academic setting without a full-time commitment and may suit physicians building a practice elsewhere, reducing full-time work, or adding shifts. Per diem anesthesiologists work alongside faculty caring for adult patients at a Level I trauma center, two surgical specialty hospitals within Loma Linda University Health, and a busy ambulatory surgery center. They also provide obstetric anesthesia for the labor and delivery service at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital. The case mix includes major abdominal, orthopedic, vascular, neurosurgical, ENT, and urologic cases, trauma, obstetrics, and non-operating-room anesthesia. Resident supervision is typically 1:2, and CRNA supervision is 1:2, up to 1:4. Shift assignments are scheduled by mutual availability. Ideally, per diem faculty work the equivalent of 20% to 49%, including weekdays, weeknights, and/or weekends; shifts can be clustered to fit scheduling needs. The department encourages the equivalent of one day per week or one week per month to help physicians stay familiar with its sites, systems, and colleagues. Per diem physicians hold a faculty appointment in the Department of Anesthesiology and are members of a collegial team that consults freely, shares difficult cases, and covers for one another. Experienced faculty provide orientation. The role includes supervising residents and CRNAs in the operating room and is suited to physicians who find teaching rewarding and bring patience and high standards. Starting compensation is $300–$350 per hour, adjusted for weekday, weeknight, or weekend shifts. Details are discussed with the department during recruitment. The department pays for occurrence malpractice insurance. The position is not eligible for a Conrad 30 waiver. California residency is required upon the start date. Loma Linda University Health is a Seventh-day Adventist academic health system whose commitment to whole-person care and service shapes the department’s work. Anesthesiologists care for a diverse, often underserved patient population in the Inland Empire. Loma Linda is described as a family-friendly community with a strong sense of community and commitment to health and wellness, located in Southern California between Los Angeles and Palm Springs, at the foot of the San Bernardino Mountains. The area offers access to beaches, skiing, hiking, and other outdoor activities, as well as a low cost of living and private and public schools.
