About The Position

We are currently looking for a Financial Analyst to join our Capital Accounting team to support the Eastern Clean Energy Initiative (ECEI) projects in a permanent position. Reporting to the Senior Corporate Accountant, you are a key member of the Nova Scotia Power Finance team, and you will be responsible for providing financial analysis to influence business decisions and work related to ECEI projects.

Requirements

  • A university degree in Finance or Accounting
  • A minimum of two years of related experience
  • Experience with financial reporting systems and Microsoft Excel
  • Comfortable creating and analyzing spreadsheets
  • Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and possess strong leadership, quantitative, analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, deadline-driven, team-focused environment with the ability to handle multiple deliverables and work independently under tight deadlines
  • Solid business acumen with a strong customer focus
  • Innovative, with the ability to identify and implement process improvements
  • A related combination of experience and education will be considered

Nice To Haves

  • Desire to pursue an accounting designation (CPA)
  • Knowledge of Oracle Fusion and Powerplan financial reporting systems
  • Support for employees working towards completing the CPA program

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the month-end, quarter-end and year-end financial close processes to ensure financial results are complete and accurate
  • Collaborate with internal departments on reporting requirements for support documentation in preparation for audits
  • Reviewing month end project costs and compare to forecast
  • Review of invoices and accruals, including review against agreement or contract for rates and work expected
  • Completion of internal control procedures
  • Update of monthly project forecasting and reporting requirements
  • Assisting Nova Scotia Power's external auditors through quarterly reviews and the annual audit
  • Working with other departments to provide information, as required
  • Attendance of status meetings with project teams for project status updates
  • Other accounting, ad hoc, and special project responsibilities, as assigned
  • Responsible for personal safety and that of co-workers by observing all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.
