About The Position

Give a child the gift of reading! America Reads is one of the preeminent federal community service programs in the country. Its mission? To mobilize an army of trained tutors to help children become successful readers. UF America Reads tutors work with students who need additional help with reading in elementary schools and community centers throughout Gainesville. All financial aid recipients with Federal Work Study in their award are welcome to apply, regardless of major. All that is required is a desire to help children become competent, confident readers.

Requirements

Currently enrolled as a student, at least half time, at the University of Florida.
Awarded Federal Work Study as part of a student financial aid package.
Must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA.
Maintain course credits required to continue to receive work study.
Pass a Background Check prior to placement in off-campus community centers.
Attend mandatory paid training prior to placement in off-campus community centers.
Have reliable transportation and be able to travel to the assigned, off campus site.
Availability to work a minimum of two days per week, Monday through Friday, for 2.5-3 hours each day between the hours of 2:30-6:00pm during the Fall 2026 semester.
Ability to travel to the assigned, off campus site.
