About The Position

The Ambulatory Patient Access Representative greets and registers patients, answers telephone calls, schedules appointments, and pulls and files medical charts when indicated. The role provides customer service to patients and families while completing patient registration and access functions.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Demonstrated computer skills and ability to navigate current technology systems.
• Strong administrative skills.
• CPR certification based on position and as determined by the manager.
• Ability to multitask in a stressful environment.
• Physical requirements include occasional lifting/carrying 0–20 lbs and pushing/pulling 26–60 lbs; frequent bending/twisting and handling patient equipment; continuous sitting, standing, walking, repetitive hand/arm use, and other listed sensory and functional demands.

Nice To Haves

• Associate’s degree.
• One year of health care experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide excellent customer service to patients and families by applying best practices and standard operating procedures.
• Interview and register patients in registration areas that report through Patient Access.
• Obtain accurate demographic, insurance, and physician information during registration.
• Screen customer data to confirm eligibility for the indicated insurance and communicate discrepancies to the customer.
• Check registrations for insurance pre-certification and physician referral requirements and instruct customers on those requirements.
• Help identify self-pay patients and refer them to financial assistance when applicable; instruct customers on requirements.
• Maintain open communication with departments that interact with Patient Access and with clinical staff in those areas.
• Assist with shadowing and precepting new employees.
• Greet and register patients, answer telephone calls, schedule appointments, and pull and file medical charts when indicated.
